Default Soloing Thirsty River?

Okay, this is just kind of a curiosity thing for me.

I just attempted Thirsty River with my W/N for the first time, with just henchies.

I blew through the first test (killed the rez monk, killed the boss, mopped up).

The second test killed me in exactly 1.5 minutes.

Expressing frustration at the mission outpost, several people told me it's impossible to solo/hench Thirsty River.

Has anyone here ever successfully done it?

Countless people have henched Thirsty River. I did it last week with my W/Mo in order to capture Word Of Healing. First I tried with a PUG and failed because people would not follow orders. What is it about 'KILL THE PRIEST' that people don't understand? So, I went back with henchies and it was very easy.

If you know what you're doing you can completely solo the mission, no henchies needed.

You can solo the mission (as in, without henchies) fairly easily with just a few runs of practice using a W/Mo build. Just make sure to bring sufficient passive healing to counteract the degen from the necro boss, and pull different mobs of enemies together (they fight each other) while you go for the priests/bosses. Make sure you hit Aegis with disrupting chop or something similar.

Henching it is pretty easy. Just take lotsa damage and charge for the priests after clearing out the mobs.

Considering I'm using a W/N, what kind of skills should I bring?
Currently, all my attribute points are geared towards Axe Mastery, Strength, and Tactics.

In my experience Thirsty River is easy to hench once you get it, really hard if you do not. There is not a mission in any of the games un-henchable. There are some that are hard to get a bonus or masters, but all are completable. The hench are only as good as you are.

Before heroes it would usually take me 15-20 tries to get it. You really need to get the enemy priests at the correct time and call targets in the correct order. I never played a w/n so I can't help much there, only in general tactics.

With heroes, this is trivial. You can bring the exact team to destroy them - nice good interrupters along with lots of spike damage. I've taken two through it since Nightfall release and bonus on first try. If you can I would make sure to do this - a ranger interrupter or a good mesmer really makes this mission MUCH easier. If you can find a human in these classes willing to help that would work also.

First, make sure the enemy priest is dead at the 2 minute mark - period. If you do not do this you will loose. For my warrior (a w/mo) it was mostly high damage axe build. I tried to hit the first mob so that they died just a second or two after the new 2 minute mark so they would not be resurrected. Before that point I tried to kill as many of the mobs that either a: killed my backline while focusing fire on priest or b: kept the priest alive too long. I do not remember the mobs that do this now, just pay attention. Once I knew this order it was mechanical to get to that same point next time.

The only really hard part was the final monk boss. He could heal the priest such that it was mostly luck to kill it in under two minutes. You need to either out damage the monk boss of stop it from healing. Almost every class combination can do it, you may just need to think about it (disrupting chop only stop one cast, it's not good enough).

I do not know what chapters you have available. If you have Factions there are some nice skills there to stop the boss. Instead of us giving a build (that can be somewhat difficult due to play styles and such) how about you tell us what you are running (attributes, skills, armor, and the hench team you are trying it with)?

Lose defy pain and sprint. Bring balanced stance, for the KD's frm the second mob, and plague touch. You have no condition removal, and blind from the third mob is a huge pain in the ass.

Clear the mobs outside the temples, then charge the priest. Kill it before the boss. First couple areas are very simple. Once you hit the third area, charge stright in, head to the warrior boss on the right side. Go directly for the priest. Kill it and clean the rest up. You can go for either boss next. Or try to lure the mobs to each other and kill both priests. I just kill the ele group then head for the monk boss. You should be able to lure the mobs away from the boss temple and kill both groups in 60 to 90 seconds. That gives you lots of time to kill the priest. Just pound on the monk boss until it's dead.

If you find the timer approaching a two minute interval and you aren't close to killing the priest, run. Get out and regroup.

To kill the 2nd set of the test:

Either kill Group 1 - Elementalists only then the priest, then boss, then warriors then go after group 2 at 3:50

Or...

Agro Group 2 and lead them to group 1.

Wait 35 seconds, then go after priest of group 1. The two groups have a grudge against each other for some reason and they fight amongst themselves. Just remember to not offer yourself as a tasty alternative to either group (in other words, stay out of the fight as best you can).

Im pretty sure u cant solo the Monk Boss group especially as W/Mo since if u try to rush the preist the monk will non stop heal him and the priest will heal himself too and vica versa.

As far as I know, it's just a matter of pulling the monk boss and team to the ranger / warrior team and while they are keeping themselfs busy fighting each other kill the monk's team priest.

Never tried it, deleted my W a long time ago.

Anyone have any tips on getting the bonus on this? (with hench/heroes)

When I did it ages ago with my primary, the set up was different.

If the King died, it didn't count him as leaving the area. In my case it didn't matter as he lived and I beat it in roughly 6 minutes.

This time however, I try it, the King dies, and it says that the King has left, thus I have failed the mission.

I'm not sure how I can keep this guy alive without pulling aggro on multiple groups. I have a lvl 20 Dunkoro Hero, but he seems reluctant to heal him unless I specifically click his skills with the King targeted, which of course makes it rather difficult to get everyone to attack one of the preists, without aggroing 2 or 3 of the mobs at the same time, as he is right in the middle.

I never had that problem, so I'll just say what I did. Maybe it will help or I was just really lucky.

When I got bonus with my Dervish and Necro I used one RC prot monk (I prefer Tahlkora, though just because I do not like Dunkoro's model), Acolyte Jin as a r/me pure interrupter, and Koss as an eviscerate warrior (also had disrupting chop). My other henchies were Alesia and Stefan.

Instead of going around from the right leaving the monk boss last I did it first - mainly because it was the first time I ever had a real chance of shutting down the monk boss and I wanted to give it a try (always been a hench player and never taken a Mesmer through there). I killed the outliers for the first 45 seconds then moved onto the priest. I targeted the monk boss, locked Jin on the boss, then switched targets and killed the priest. I then killed all the mobs outside the base (they were harassing my casters) and finished the healer boss off. The rest are easy, I just let Acolyte Jin interrupt whoever she wanted and did my normal target calling.

Yes, I did aggro more than one group, especially in the mad dash to get to the priest. But once the priest was dead if I focused on who was hurting my squishies and called them as a target I usually survived just fine. The new AI that focuses on the squishes makes it somewhat easier to call targets - they are all kinda bunched around the same one. That and a prot monk *really* helps (the AI does a great job with an RC prot monk).

From hearing people talk about it, it seems the monk boss group is the one that does him in. I can't be sure as I have never seen it, but grab their aggro and kill as many high damage dealers as you can in 30-45 seconds, kill the priest, then set priority on who is killing your squishies and let your tanks absorb anyone who is attacking them.

It will be a while before my Paragon or assassin gets there, but so far the above has gotten me the bonus without even trying for it. Unless the AI changed from when I did it (sometime during the Wintersday festival).

*shrug* hope it helps.

Best way to stop him from getting killed is to run in guess what LERROY the things attacking him (warrior's team) and kill them before they kill them. Kill the warrior boss and the priest then go to the monk boss and take him to the ranger boss and kill monk's priest. And if you can take a real monk.

I soloed this mission B4 as a W/mo.

Like alarico511 said u amke the whole team kil lthem self then use iway......

BUT, the main way this is done is to lure the group to each other....

the first areas is easy enough, then on the secound one tell ppl to go and dye in the middle and lure some ppl form both sides if needed. U then run in to the necro boss then ru nto the ele boss, then go and pick of ppl while ppl are killing each other. On the third one same as B4 but ttry and lure the Monk boss out as far as possible saves time.... if ucan't solo the last 3 bosses, res the team and tell them to kill them as well.

Main skills needed:
Healing hands
Iway
Res

mend condtion - helps sicne some ppl blind

then take u attack skills, and intrupt skill is handy
